Tipping in Marrakech: taxis, drivers and airport transfers
Tipping is appreciated in Morocco but never an obligation. Here are the amounts people actually give to drivers.
By the Medina Transfers team · Updated 12 October 2026
Tipping is appreciated but not required in Marrakech. In a petit taxi, rounding up by 5 to 10 dirhams is the usual gesture. For a private driver or an airport transfer, 20 to 50 dirhams is a common range when the service was good.
Usual amounts for drivers
| Situation | Usual tip | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Petit taxi in the city | Round up by 5 to 10 dirhams | Not expected for a very short ride |
| Airport transfer or short private ride | 20 to 50 dirhams | When the driver waited, helped with bags, found the riad |
| Driver for a full day | Equivalent of 10 to 20 euros a day | Figure reported by travellers, more for a group |
Three simple rules
- Tip for a service, not by reflex. A driver who waited an hour after a delayed flight or walked you to your riad has earned it.
- Use dirhams. Coins and small notes are the most useful. Foreign coins are of no use to the driver.
- Give it directly to the driver at the end of the ride.
With a pre-booked transfer
The price of a Medina Transfers ride covers the vehicle and the driver, and it is paid online before you travel. Nothing more is asked of you on arrival. If you want to thank the driver, a tip is welcome and entirely up to you.
Landing without cash? See where to get dirhams at the airport. For how street taxis work, see taxis in Marrakech.
