Jemaa el-Fna is about 6 km from Marrakech Menara Airport, a drive of 15 to 20 minutes. A private transfer costs €20 per vehicle for 1 to 7 passengers. The square itself is pedestrian: vehicles stop on its edge, near the Koutoubia mosque, a few minutes away on foot.
The ways to get there
| Option | Price | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer (Medina Transfers) | €20 per vehicle, 1 to 7 passengers | Booked in advance, driver waiting with your name, dropped at the closest point to your riad |
| Taxi from the rank | Agreed with the driver before leaving | Outside the arrivals hall, paid in cash in dirhams |
| Bus 19 | 30 dirhams per person | About every 20 minutes in the daytime and evening, stops near the square |
The price guide compares the three in detail.
Where cars stop near Jemaa el-Fna
No vehicle drives onto the square. Drivers stop on the avenue that runs along the Koutoubia gardens, on the west side. From there the square is a short, flat walk. If your riad lies deeper in the Medina, another gate may be closer: that is why we ask for the name of the riad when you book.
If you are staying in a riad near the square
- Give the name of the riad in the address field. The driver chooses the gate.
- Ask the riad to meet you. Most send someone to the drop-off point to guide you through the lanes.
- Luggage: the lanes are paved and narrow. Porters with hand carts wait near the gates and are paid in cash.
More detail on gates and riads is on the airport to Medina page.
Arriving in the evening
Jemaa el-Fna is at its busiest from late afternoon, when the food stalls open. The streets around it slow down and the drive can take longer. At night the bus no longer runs: see taxis at night. A booked transfer costs the same at any hour.
