How your transfer to Essaouira works
- Book online with your flight number: in the form, choose Essaouira under « Other cities from Marrakech ».
- Meet your driver just outside arrivals, holding a board with your name. We follow your flight and wait up to 60 minutes after landing at no extra cost.
- Drive west to the coast, about 183 km through the plains and the argan country, in a private, air-conditioned vehicle.
- Arrive at the gate of the medina closest to your riad, or at the door of your hotel if it is outside the walls.
If you land late at night, tell your riad your arrival time: many riads lock their door late and send someone to the gate when they expect you.
Arriving in Essaouira: gates, porters and riads
The Essaouira medina is a walled town where cars do not enter. Every vehicle, ours included, stops at a gate. The main ones are Bab Sbaa near the beach side, Bab Marrakech to the east and Bab Doukkala to the north. Give us the name of your riad when you book and we choose the closest gate.
- Porters with handcarts wait at the gates and carry your bags to the door. A tip is customary.
- Ask your riad to meet you at the gate and to send you a location pin: addresses in the medina are hard to find.
- Hotels outside the walls, along the beach road, are reached by car to the entrance.
Back from Essaouira to Marrakech airport
The ride back costs the same: €165 per vehicle for 1 to 7 passengers. Your driver collects you at the gate where you were dropped, or at your hotel, and drives you straight to the terminal.
- When to leave: count 2 h 30 to 3 h of road, then the time your airline asks you to be at the airport. For an international flight, leaving Essaouira 5 to 6 hours before departure is a safe margin.
